Activation was simple. I installed before the trip in Australia and while it will try and activate it won’t be able to until you land in Japan - just wait a while and it will stop attempting and you can turn it off until you land (see the end of the FAQs). My phone had trouble trying to activate while we were still on the plane but activated fine in the terminal (why yes, I am impatient.. what gave it away?).
The SIM worked fine in all areas of Japan we travelled to - from the middle of a busy city to more rural areas in Central Japan. My partner had an eSIM from a different provider utilising a different network, and anywhere that my SIM did not work theirs did not have much reception either so it was an equivalent experience. The network provider is IIJ, who utilises NTT Docomo as mentioned in the product description. Unsure that I ever got 5G however, I was mostly on LTE as far as I can recall.
The only issue that I had with this SIM is that it didn’t allow tethering/mobile hotspot in my experience. If you are wanting to share your data with someone else (your partner, your child, someone else) or even just tether to your tablet or laptop while out and about you won’t be able to do that. If you do not need this capability then you’ll find this SIM works perfectly.
Easy to set up, and got connected right after landing. Highly recommended 👍
Ive travelled to Malaysia and Taiwan with Airsims. Very easy connection and good coverage.
ESim worked well. Connected as soon as we got off the ship and had coverage the entire time we were in NZ from Dunedin to the Bay Islands.
I travel a lot and been using Airsims for data eSIMs and it’s been pretty good. This is my 2nd review. Quick to set up, worked instantly, and I’ve had no issues with speed and coverage everywhere I’ve gone (so far no issues). No weird apps that ask for too much information and control of your phone (I work in cybersec) or annoying setup process, just straight-up data that works. Prices are reasonable and fair, not expensive like some others. Also tried cheaper (and nasty) alternatives and gave me grief. Seems they got the mix of cutting out the nonsense and giving a decent product. It’s simple, does what it says. If it were a clothing brand I’d say it’s like Uniqlo or Toyota car (I was in Japan not too long ago). Also used on my kids iPads without drama.
Travelling to Japan, I bought the eSim a few days before I landed in Japan, works greats with good coverage and speed, excellent price compared to other. I end up buying a second eSim for my partner. Highly recommend it.
As a regular traveler to Japan and Australia/Asia, I’ve now used the AirSims Japanese eSIM for the fourth time, and I must say, it continues to impress. The coverage has been excellent, particularly in the major cities like Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka, but also in more regional areas, which I originally worried about. I’ve tried a few competitors in the past, but so far, this one stands out for both performance and value.
What’s even more remarkable is that I’ve also used airsims in other parts of Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand, and the experience has been consistent. The speed is reliable, and the connection quality is stable, whether I’m urban or exploring more remote areas.
Overall, I think this is a bit of a hidden gem for an eSIM service. For anyone heading to Japan or other destinations in Asia, I recommend giving it a go. Reminds me of Franklin’s, Bi-Lo and Aldi back in the day when I used to live in Australia. Good for less, my partner reckons you are just paying for advertising if you going for the expensive ones. I don’t know, I’m just happy with this one.
Initial connection after arrival to Sydney the eSIM seemed not to connect. Tried resetting iPhone and checking settings then just left it alone. About 30 min later it managed to connect and worked well in Sydney, Airlie Beach, Cairns and even when out in the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Cairns.
I’ve travelled through Asia and US/Canada and have used airsims on different trips. I have a basic iPhone 13 and very happy. My last trip was to Vietnam to multiple cities with a tour group, my travel buddy had problems with her Vodafone roaming. My airsim had no problem. I like to use Facebook and iMessage to keep in touch with my adult kids. I like Google translate when I travel because I don’t want to be rude or get ripped off. So much yummy food in Vietnam because I can see the review when I am traveling.
Had a 3 week Europe trip with my bestie. I bought an Airsim for me and her as a birthday treat. Coverage was good and started working once we’d landed in Paris. We stayed in major cities and it helped us with Google maps and Google translate. Instagram worked great. Was able to upload content without dropouts. Bought some nice cocktails with the money saved. ;) Was recommended by a work colleague.
Real easy to use, cheap as chips. No fancy stuff here.
I bought four for my family trip. No issues and decent prices.
The sims we got for Japan were very easy to use and gave great coverage in the city and in the ski fields. The best value, reliable sims around ( for Japan)
Great value and it worked. Nav and translate worked like a champ. Got the 20GB plan for 2 week trip. 1st time using airsims brand with my iPhone - IDK what else to say - might use it on my future trip to Asia. :P
Easy to use, Pretty cheap and it works. 2nd time customer.
