eSIM Compatible Laptops: Windows 11 Setup Guide and Workarounds
Need internet on your laptop while travelling, working remotely, or avoiding expensive roaming charges? Many modern Windows laptops support eSIM technology, allowing you to connect to mobile data networks without a physical SIM card.
Before purchasing an eSIM for your laptop, it's important to understand that not every laptop supports cellular connectivity. Many manufacturers sell LTE or 5G-capable versions alongside Wi-Fi-only models that look identical.
Important: Your Laptop Must Have Cellular (LTE/5G) Hardware
An eSIM will only work if your laptop includes a built-in cellular modem and eSIM functionality.
Many laptop series offer LTE or 5G as an optional upgrade, meaning two laptops with the same name may have different capabilities.
If you're unsure, consult your laptop's user manual, specifications page, or manufacturer's website before purchasing an eSIM.

How to Check if Your Laptop Supports eSIM
- Open Settings.

- If Cellular appears, your device may support mobile data.
- Select Cellular and look for options to manage eSIM profiles.
If you cannot find Cellular settings, your device is likely Wi-Fi only.
How to Install an eSIM on Windows 11
- Open Settings.

- Click Cellular.
- Choose Manage eSIM Profiles.
- Select Add Profile.
- Choose Use an Activation Code.
- Scan your AirSIMs QR code or enter the activation details manually.

Managing Multiple eSIMs
If you travel frequently, you may accumulate several eSIM profiles.
To identify the correct profile, compare the ICCID shown in Windows with the ICCID provided in your AirSIMs order confirmation.
Consider renaming profiles based on destination, such as (example):
- Europe 2026
- Japan Trip
- USA Business Travel
What About Apple MacBooks?
At the time of writing, Apple MacBook computers do not include built-in LTE or 5G cellular connectivity and cannot directly install travel eSIM profiles.
MacBook users can still enjoy mobile data by creating a hotspot from:
- An iPhone using a travel eSIM.
- An Android phone using a travel eSIM.
- A dedicated mobile hotspot device.
This is often the simplest solution for travellers who need internet access across multiple devices.
Alternative for Wi-Fi Only Laptops
If your laptop does not have LTE or eSIM support, you can still use an AirSims travel eSIM by installing it on your smartphone and sharing the connection via Personal Hotspot or Mobile Hotspot.
This method works with:
- Apple MacBooks
- Windows laptops without LTE
- Chromebooks
- Tablets and other Wi-Fi-only devices
Stay Connected Wherever You Travel
Whether you're working remotely, attending meetings overseas, or simply staying connected on holiday, a travel eSIM can provide reliable mobile data without the hassle of finding local SIM cards.
Specifications and eSIM support vary by manufacturer, country, and laptop configuration. Always verify compatibility before purchasing an eSIM.
